At

Colour-Sergeant Coughlan =gallantly ventured
under fire, with three others, into a serai

by the enemy in great numbers and rescued a
private of their Regiment who was severly wounded.
On 18th July he encouraged a party to charge
down a lane lined on each side with huts and
raked by crossfire. He went with the party into
an enclosure filled with the enemy and accounted
for all of them. He then returned under crossfire
to collect dhoolies and carry off the wounded.
In

Regiment presented him with an inscribed gold
pocket watch for esteem .
